Duck Hunting Tournament
Posted by Chessie Club on Wednesday, October 6, 2010
Are you a duck hunter? Are you a good duck hunter? Are you the baddest
duck hunter that ever stomped through a cattail slough? Or are you maybe
one of those suicidal layout hunters that used a long line clip for a
teething ring? Wanna put the steel shot in the air and prove it? We're
gonna give you that chance!!
Have you never been on a duck hunt but would like to go? Do you watch the
“Flyway Highway”, the “Duck Commander” and the “Mojo Migration” and think
to yourself “I'm gonna do that” and then realize you don't even know
where to start? Well here's your chance.
Maybe you used to hunt but don't anymore, would like to go out again, and
don't have the equipment? got rid of the boat? no decoys? Here is a
chance for you to get back out there and do it again.
We are having a club duck hunt on Saturday the 23rd of October, as well as
the first annual “Michigan Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club Duck Hunting
Tournament”. This is strictly a social function and fun tournament for
the participants and members of the Michigan Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club
and there is no entry fee except to say you are a duck hunter, but you
must pre-register by email by October 16th so we know for sure how many
people are participating. By pre-register, I mean to just let me know by
email that you are going to be attending.
A small number of members have volunteered time and gear, so there are a
very limited number of slots available to people who are interested in
going on a hunt but do not have either the equipment and gear, or even
know where to start, so if you are interested in one of these slots please
respond by October 16th so that we can maybe get you matched up. We may
even have access to a pontoon boat duck blind, so if you are like me and
the old bones just aren't as forgiving as they used to be, and you have a
hard time getting into and out of a traditional type of duck boat, the
pontoon boat blind may be just the ticket for you. That is still up in
the air at this time though we are working on it. These slots are very
limited in number, so even though you reply by the due date, there is no
guarantee there will be room or equipment and gear available, but we will
try to accommodate as many people as we can.
The Tournament rules are simple:
Mandatory 5:00 am check-in at the Log Cabin Grocery(BP gas station) near
Akron.
You can hunt anywhere in Bay, Saginaw, Tuscola, or Huron Counties.
You can use any legal method of taking waterfowl.
Party size can be of any number but there must be at least one club member
in the hunting party, and you gotta have at least one member owned Chessie
in the hunting party.
This is a Tournament, so he with the mostest wins!! Actually, you must
follow the limit rules set by the DNR in the 2010 Waterfowl Hunting
Digest, which state, 6 ducks, 2 geese, 5 mergansers, 15 coots, and 8
snipe.
That's it for the rules of the tournament. If you are going to hunt, to
be legal you are going to need all of your licenses, which are the Federal
Watefowl Stamp, Michigan Small Game License, and Michigan Waterfowl
License.
Mandatory check in will be at 5:00 am Saturday morning at the Log Cabin
Grocery(BP gas station) on M-25 near Akron. If you are hunting with one of
the volunteers, you will meet your party there. Address is 6472 M-25
Akron, Mi. Their phone number is 989-691-5270. 5:00 am should be early
enough to get you checked in and then off to Fish Point if you are
planning on making a morning draw there. Drawing times at Fish Point are
at 5:30 am.
We will meet back at the Lamplighter Restaurant at 2:00 pm in Sebewaing
for a late lunch, sitting bull session, and to determine the winner of the
first annual Michigan Chesapeake Bay Retriever Club Duck Hunting
Tournament. Address for the Lamplighter is 8850 Unionville Rd. Sebewaing.
Their phone is 989-883-9224
If you decide to not go to the resaurant, please tell someone that is
going to the restaurant that you will not be there, so we do not assume
the worst and believe you are still out on the bay somewhere!!
There is no entry fee or registration form to fill out for participation,
but you must pre-register by email by October 16th. In other words, it's
a free, fun, club function, but you need to let me know by email by
October 16th if you are planning on attending so we can match up
volunteers with the people wanting to hunt. If you just want to hunt, you
do not have to participate in the tournament. You may reply to this
emailing, or my email address at:
animal1x@yahoo.com
If you have any questions, just give me a holler either email or on the
phone at 989-435-2977.
Remember, where ever you go this season and what ever style of
waterfowling you do, have fun, think safety.
